Using VRIO
In 1991 J. Barney published his paper Firm resources and sustained competitive advantage in the Journal of Management. In this paper, Barney identified 4 elements that he suggested could be used to determining the potential of an organisation’s resources and capabilities. To generate a sustainable competitive advantage, Barney believed that resources and capabilities must contain 4 key attributes:
- Be Valuable
- Be Rare
- Be Imperfectly Imitatable
- Organised so that the firm can capture their value
